Artist Illustrates Human Behavior Jumping Across Different Mediums

Toni Hamel is a Toronto-based artist who analyzes the complex human behavior in her artworks. She works with different mediums, including oil and alkyd, to realize her ideas in the form of paintings, drawings, or sculptures.

Hamel describes her work as "an illustrated commentary of human frailties". She uses her personal experiences and observations to create satirical illustrations that reflect on and interpret the psychological unease characteristic of our age. "Virtues and vices, the holy and the profane, the good and the bad all share equal weight in her work and supply an infinite source of material for her investigations," reads Hamel’s website. "Pointing to historical and psychological references while tackling issues of universal interest, Hamel’s narratives question our behavior to eventually alert us about the repercussions of our current thinking models."
